First images of FireFox OS are finally here

With the iOS and the Android taking up much of the user base, Firefox has jumped in the OS bandwagon as well. With their new HTML 5 based OS they are going to target the middle to lower income group in new emerging markets and they have already got some good support from carriers.

Looking at some of these images, one can surely tell that it looks like a mash up of the iOS with Android.
The lockscreen incorporates notifications, and you can go directly to your camera or your home page from the lockscreen. This is a definite bonus as it will reduce the time taken to take out your phone and snap a picture. The homescreen is nice on your eyes, and the icons are quite big which makes for quite a nice overall look. I really like the way the contacts are displayed, when you open up a contact to view them the contact picture is displayed similar to the way the Facebook cover photo is displayed. The keyboard looks as if it’s been taken out of the iOS with a bit of a modification on the keys.
However, since it’s based on HTML 5 it can’t really compare with the android OS or the iOS. Even Apps won’t be looking so pretty, since HTML 5 will take some time to kick in. Moreover, Firefox claims that its OS will be much lighter than Android, but on the other hand Firefox has also said that as chips become more powerful in the future, the performance issues will eventually go away.
As far as implementing the OS goes; Vivo, a carrier is expected to launch the first device to run the new mobile operating system early next year in Brazil. Moreover Chinese companies like ZTE and TCL will also be making Firefox devices.
Let’s see what happens, we can’t say much until we get our hands dirty on the Firefox OS but until then, we will be waiting for it.
